The MACLiC project

MACLIC (Mapping Contemporary Love and Intimacy Ideals in Canada) is a 5-year research project funded by SSHRC and based at Université du Québec à Montréal.

The main purpose of our research is to document and describe current individual attitudes towards different conceptions of intimate relationships, as well as intimate arrangements among the Canadian general population.

Do Canadians still believe in passionate love, or is the latter a thing of the past? Is monogamy the norm among couples, or are more and more people negotiating non-exclusive relationships? Are Canadians satisfied with their sexuality? What activities do they share with their partner(s)? And how do they organize their domestic and care work on a daily basis?

Our project, which will apply different methodologies to answer these questions, will provide new data on aspects of our everyday life, such as ideas and practices in love and sexuality, that are of crucial importance for our personal and collective wellbeing.
